James
Duddridge, Conservative MP for Rochford and Southend East, has tabled a motion
of ‘no confidence’ against John Bercow, House of Common’s Speaker. Earlier
this week John Bercow, in his position as Speaker, vowed to block President
Trump from addressing Parliament during his state visit later this year.
In arriving
at his ban, Bercow stated:
“I feel very strongly that our
opposition to racism, to sexism, and our support for equality before the law
and an independent judiciary are hugely important considerations in the House
of Commons.”
This should be interesting. What happens when
Duddridge loses the vote? While it’s one thing for Trump to know that the
Common’s Speaker has made an announcement; imagine his wrath when he learns
that the Speaker has been backed by the Commons.
